MEET THE AUTHORS JUNE 22 AT HERITAGE HOUSE
“Meet the Authors,” a reception to highlight local authors and authors of local history, kicks off the visitor season at Heritage House, the home of the La Crescent Area Historical Society at 328 South Third Street in La Crescent. The event takes place from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 22, and is open to the public.
The evening gives guests an opportunity to not only talk with seven different book authors and see their work, but also tour the historical society’s museum displays. “There are many authors living in this area and researching La Crescent history,” explains Don Thesing, the historical society president. “We want to showcase their creative talents and acknowledge the ambition it takes to write a book, while also honoring our rich history.”
The guest authors include Jon Steffes (Dirty Hands, Wings in the Winds: the Asmistice Day Storm of 1940, and Drawing Trouble), LaVern Cass (I Was There: Short Stories, Book One and Book Two), Dick Walter (Ghost Hollow), Jack Welch (Up from Ashes), and Sara Slayton (Three Boomer Broads: Remembering While We Still Can with Terry Visger and Lynn Wing.
Also expected is historian Ron Harris, who wrote With Good Grit: The Story of Emma Eastman (“Virgin Em”) about the controversial wife of Peter Cameron, founder of La Crescent. Donna Huegel is the author of Stealing the Mississippi River…Fascinating History of La Crescent and also Many a Grove and Orchard: the Story of John S. Harris. Dick Walter will also represent Ron Levendoski, who compiled Houston County Veterans Memorial.
Copies of books may be available for purchase, and refreshments will be served. There is no event charge, but guests may make goodwill donations.
